A stairway, staircase, stairwell, flight of stairs, or simply stairs, is a construction designed to bridge a large vertical distance by dividing it into smaller vertical distances, called steps. Stairs may be straight, round, or may consist of two or more straight pieces connected at angles. Special types of stairs include escalators and ladders. Some alternatives to stairs are elevators (also called lifts), stairlifts, inclined moving walkways, and ramps.
Loft Conversion Stairs
All loft conversions must comply with building regulations, even if the type of conversion you are having means planning permission is not required. A fixed staircase must be in place to provide safe access to and from the loft room. The staircase can have a maximum steepness pitch of 42 degrees.
